Full Description
Farmstead, still in use, with 18th and 19th century elements. There is a C-listed grieve's house (the former farmhouse) built in the 18th century, a B-listed cart shed range probably built in the late 18th century and a second B-listed farmhouse built in circa 1825. It is depicted on the 1st edition OS map as a quadrangular steading, the earlier farmhouse/grieve' house to the south, and the 19th century farmhouse to the east set in garden grounds with adjacent east and west garden enclosures. To the south of the listed quadrangular steading is an irregular T-plan steading and there are three smaller associated buildings to the west. To the north is a pond with a mill lade connecting the pond and farmstead. There is also a small pond to the southwest of the T-plan steading. On the 2nd edition OS there are additions within the court of the quadrangular steading, additions to the earlier farmhouse and the T-plan steading has been greatly extended, with the southwestern pond no longer shown. One of the buildings to the west has been removed. The 18th century farmhouse is a 2-storey, T-plan house, constructed of rubble stone with pinnings, with a piend roofed front wing added in the late 18th century. The cart shed range has six segmental arches, loft over, constructed of rubble with stone slated roof. The circa 1825 farmhouse is two-storey with a three-window frontage and is constructed from coursed rubble with pinnings. There is a three-window back wing and a Graeco Roman unfluted doric column doorpiece. Current OS maps show further additions and alterations, the lade is still shown but the mill pond has been vegetated over and is now shown as collects with an irregular shaped enclosure.
