Full Description

Remains of a trench system and line of anti-tank blocks visible on aerial photographs taken in 1941 and 1946. They show 12 anti-tank blocks about 40m east of a pillbox (NO64NE0092). The firing trench extended for over 750m along the front of the line of dunes, and appears segmented in form with parapets standing at least 2--3m high. It was accessed by lengths of trench zig-zagging down the cliff face at two points. The trench system can still be made out on aerial photographs taken in 1995, but is not evident on a series taken in 2000 so may have been destroyed by erosion or wind-blow. Coastal zone assessment survey carried out by SCAPE between February and March 2009 recorded a single anti-tank block. At the southern end of the trench was a Type 24 brick and concrete pillbox. It is not visible on aerial photographs taken in 2000, and may now have been removed or completely collapsed.
