Full Description

The fragmentary remains of a small mill lie to the south of the south boundary dyke at Ballochan. A wheel pit for a vertical water wheel has been infilled with stones from the building. A partially in-filled lade leads to it from a dam in the south, which was in turn supplied, via a second mill pond, with water from the Burn of Corn at a weir and water intake at NO 51565 90185. Their weir is constructed of large field boulders with a timber face on the upstream side, and the water intake passes under a lintel in the section of drystone wall that has been constructed on the bank pf a burn. The lade leads to the two mill ponds.
