Full Description

A group of structures comprising buildings, cairns and enclosure, extending over an area of gentle slopes to the east of Alllachrowan were recorded in a pre-afforestation survey by Headland Archaeology in 1996. A total of 13 stone built buildings were identified. Two small buildings (one oval 4m by 2.5m, the other rectangular 3.5m by 2.5m). A loose cluster of 8 structures (six rectangular ranging from 5m by 3m to 7m by 3.5m. Two sub-circular 3-4m in diameter) within within the pinewood. Three rectangular buildings on the bank of the Allachrowan (between 5m by 3m and 8m by 3.5m). Within the pinewood there was a poorly defined area of cairns, roughly 300m x 100m. The stone-walled enclosure measure 18m square, has low rubble walls and is divided into one half and two quarters with a small shelter in one of the quarters. Some of the structures have pine trees growing within or close to them.
