Full Description

Remains of a farmstead(s) on the west side of the west boundary dyke, depicted on historic OS maps. The 1st edition shows four buildings around a central court, with a small unroofed structure to the north, an enclosure to the northeast, and further north two rectangular buildings each with attached enclosure. The building on the north side of the court and the unroofed one to the north had been removed by the time of the 2nd edition map, which also does not show the two northern enclosures. Remains were recording during forestry survey in the 1990s. Part of the range on the southwest side of the court contained a water-powered mill, with a small breast or over-shot wheel on the outside. Water came from a small dam 100m to the southwest supplied by the Burn of Kalfrush via a 400m long lade. Of the two northerly buildings, at the time of survey the eastern one was fully slated and the western one reduced to low rubble walls. Both were depicted as in use on the OS map of 1865.
