Full Description
Early 19th century bridge, widened in 1894 by George Truefitt and Thomas Mawson. It is a single span, segmental-arched bridge over the Water of Tanar. Built of granite rubble, with finely finished granite arch-ring, splayed wing walls with circular terminations with half-sphere caps, a rough-faced, coped parapet with angled shallow refuges and decorative ironwork railings. A datestone to the inside west parapet reads 1894, and there is a tooled panel to the outside west parapet. The bridge is depicted on the OS 1st edition 1867 map on which it is named Bridge of Ash. On the OS 2nd edition, it is named is it as currently.
