Full Description

A large lime kiln of probable 19th century date stands to the east of Mains of Midstrath. It is a single three-draw limekiln with the side draw tunnels. It is mainly dry rubble but with squared rubble front curved at ends and centre part projected The three fireholes feed a single large kiln. There has been a partial collapse of the middle drawhole. The kiln is now choked and ruinous and trees grow on top and out of sides. The quarry associated with the kiln lies to the south-east and is now water filled and has rubbish dumped near the edges. The farmer at Midstrath ran the limestone quarry and sold lime locally, but the coming of the railway brought cheaper lime to Deeside and it became uneconomical to run the lime kiln.
