Full Description

Property designed by D. Wishart Galloway in 1897, in the free Neo-Jacobean style. Single-storey stugged ashlar with broached dressings. The central round arched doorpiece has alternately moulded voussoirs springing directly from dwarf polished granite columns, deeply recessed side lights and a double-leaf door. Two bipartite windows to the east and a projecting gable to the west with a large 3-light window, the centre light taller with a mullion and a transom cross over an arched transom, with scroll supporting features. There are two bipartite windows in the north-east gable. The roof is slated and piended to the east within a plain parapet. Photographic recording was carried out in April 2016 ahead of proposed development. The building retained many original Art Nouveau fittings, including door fittings, air vents and fireplaces. The property was the former Registrar's Office, Parish and Local Authority Council Chambers.
