Full Description

Farmhouse and farmstead, shown on the OS 1st edition map as an L-plan farmhouse with gardens to the south, a quadrangular steading to the southwest, with a courtyard opening to the southeast and a Corn Mill southwest of the steading. A school and schoolhouse (NO55NW0120) is south of the farmhouse and south of this are farm cottages. The OS 2nd edition map shows the farmhouse with additions to the north, the steading has been roofed over with a long linear rectangular-plan range added to the west with an open courtyard between the two blocks, as well as outbuildings added northwest of the steading. A small outbuilding and enclosure is shown within the enclosure west of the former Corn Mill, which is no longer labelled as a Corn Mill on the OS 2nd edition map. The listed building covers the farmhouse, dating from circa 1840, a plain 2-storey building, formerly a single-storey, harled with a slated roof. The steading complex is now shown with sections of former ranges as ruins on the current OS map and only ruins of part of the former Corn Mill are shown. The former farm cottages are now a residential property called Kirkton Cottage. The farm is to the west across the road from the Aberlemno Parish Church (NO55NW0028).
