Full Description

Memorial cross, commemorating Sub Lieutenant Arnold Waterhouse (RNVR) and Sub Lieutenant A Brian Honeyburn (RNVR) killed on a training flight on 27 February 1943 in a Swordfish K8444. The plaque from the original wooden cross which had rotted away many years previously was found during metal detecting, and subsequently placed on a new stone cross unveiled in November 2016. The plaque records that the original cross was adjacent to a tree 50 yards north of the crash site Grid reference (NO 53080 46917) is as recorded by Imperial War Museum: the cross is alongside a field boundary not adjacent to the road.
