Full Description
Royal Observer Corps post, opened in February 1959 for the United Kingdom Warning and Monitoring Organisation and closed September 1991. The surface features remain, and some features survive internally. An historic building survey of the post was carried out by AOC Archaeology in May 2017. It comprises an underground observational room and toilet with an above-ground access hatch and two ventilation shafts and a bomb power indicator. It is one of over 1500 below-ground bunkers constructed during the Cold War, all built of brick and concrete to an identical style, with the same fittings installed, designed to house three ROC personnel (on rotation) at any one time. The Ministry of Defence removed any vital equipment after decommissioning, although basic fixtures and fittings remained in the structure such as doors, electrical wiring and a desk, cupboard and battery box.
