Full Description

Remains of a bleachworks. An early 18th century and later complex of which very little now remains. The 2006 map shows that a range of single-storey slatted conditioning sheds, the reservoir and lade system, and some rubble and brick buildings survive. The 1st edition OS map (1865) shows the site as a Linen Mill, with a gasworks at the western end of the complex. By the 2nd edition OS map (surveyed 1901) the complex has grown and the gasworks has been re-sited further west. A watching brief was maintained by AOC Archaeology prior to a small housing development on part of the former works site in 2007. No remains or other features were recorded.
