Full Description

Remains of World War II anti-invasion defences around Barry Links. South of Barry Burn ran a line of anti-tank blocks, in the northeast sector fronted by two lines of dragons teeth. Pillboxes were set into the line of cubes, and there were also firing positions for machine guns on or close behind the beach which lay within a maze of barbed wire entanglements. The southern tip of Buddon Ness was most heavily defended, with three Y-shaped pillboxes, an artillery position, and a line of cubes fronted by dragon's teeth and Dansart wire. A number of anti-tank blocks incorporated within a modern dump of stones forming a sea defence were recorded at NO5606133554 during coastal zone assessment survey carried out by SCAPE between February and March 2009. These are probably remains of two continuous lines of anti-tank ditch visible on 1941 and 1946 vertical aerial photographs. The photographs show that there was a line of barbed-wire fencing east of the line of blocks. The anti-tank blocks extended most of the way around Buddon Ness (see also NO53SE0060, NO53SE0017, NO53SW0090, NO53SW0116, NO53SW0085)
