Full Description
Commemorative street name, and site of memorial plaque. A commemorative plaque to First World War Victoria Cross recipient, Petty Officer George Mackenzie Samson, after whom the road was named, was erected by the Royal British Legion. Samson received the first Victoria Cross to be awarded to a Royal Naval Reserve Rating, received for his gallantry at Gallopoli The original plaque has been removed to the British Legion Hall, but a slightly altered copy has been added to the Carnoustie War Memorial (NO53SE0014) and a new street sign acknowledging George Samson has been placed in Samson Place.
