Full Description

Hermit's Well, located near the Water of Tanar in the Forest of Glen Tanar, at the foot of the north slope of White Hill. A well is shown on the OS 2nd edition map at circa NO 44646 93572. The well could not be found during site visits in 2006. A survey was carried out in this area in 2011 by The Ross Partnership, at which time the well could not be located at this grid reference. It is suggested that a spring of water which issues from between two boulders at NO 44685 93635 may be the well described. However, at the time of the survey the site was much overgrown making it difficult to see if there were any inscriptions on the stones which characterise all the other springs on the estate (which were marked by William Cunliffe-Brooks).
