Full Description

Former mill buildings, depicted on historic OS maps, now in residential use. The 1st and 2nd edition maps show two L-plan buildings as a Corn Mill. The larger one to the west being the mill, with a lade running from the south side of the building to the river, and the one to the east being the mill-house. Current maps show the former west mill building is now rectangular in plan, and the lade has been infilled. A Level 1 Standing Building Survey was carried out on the western building in November 2017 by Cameron Archaeology prior to proposed conversion. A mill is depicted on this location on Ainslie's map of 1794, but not on Roy's military map of 1747-55. The building was originally L-plan with a wheel located at the western end of the south elevation, and the infilled lade was still observable. In later phases windows were inserted and glasshouses constructed on the southern elevation. Various internal alterations were also recorded.

Period Notes
The mill was probably originally constructed in the 18th century, although Pont’s late 16th-century map shows a mill which might have been in this location.
