Full Description

War memorial, commemorating those from Forfar who were lost in World War I. Built 1920-1 to the designs of T. R. Soutar, and unveiled on 11 September 1921 by Queen Mary. It is also known locally as 'Boammie'. The memorial takes the form of a 174 metre (571 feet) high battlemented and turreted tower constructed from red sandstone rubble. The plinth of the tower splays out towards the ground. The top has a bartizan, and the parapet is crenellated. The parapet is corbelled outwards on machicolations. A plaque above the entrance reads 'Their name liveth for evermore. Erected in Memory of the men of Forfar and District who fell in the Great War 1914-18'. Full transcription of memorial held in AAS Digital Archive. It is in a similar style to Airlie Memorial Tower (NO36SE0056).
