Full Description

Plaque commemorating those who died in Whitley Bomber N1440 which crashed in the garden of Glenernie Cottage, Tolbooth Street, Forres (NJ05NW0313) on the 7th of November 1940. The Bomber plane was from No.19 O.T.U. based at RAF Kinloss. Erected in 1989, it is a wall-mounted brass plaque with wooden backboard and is incised with black lettering. The inscription reads: 'THIS PLAQUE WAS ERECTED BY THE STATION COMMANDER ROYAL AIR FORCE KINLOSS GP CPAT R H GOULD MA RAF ON 12TH NOVEMVER (sic) 1989 IN MEMORY OF THE CREW OF WHITLEY BOMBER N1440 OF No. 19 O.T.U. BASED AT ROYAL AIR FORCE KINLOSS WHO DIED WHEN THEIR AIRCRAFT CRASHED IN THE GARDEN OF GLENERNIE TOLLBOOTH STREET FORRES ON 7TH NOVEMBER 1940 WITH NO LOSS OF CIVILIAN LIFE. CREW - FG OFF J.F.
