Full Description

Farmstead, still in use, depicted on the 1st edition OS map as a large sub-square building with three further rectangular buildings to the north and west. By the 2nd edition map one of the buildings to the west had been removed while there appears to be a horse-mill attached to the east face of the large sub-square building. The remaining three buildings shown on the 2nd edition map survive today. A standing building survey was carried out by Alba Archaeology (Highland) in February 2009. Cartographic evidence suggests that there has been a settlement at Chapelton since at least the 16th century, however the maps do not show the settlement in sufficient detail to say anything about the individual buildings on the site. The site is only shown in detail from the 1st edition OS map onwards.
