Full Description

Cottage and gardens, still in use, and depicted on the 1st and 2nd edition OS maps. It was built in circa 1830, possibly by William Robertson, Elgin. The house is in a classical cottage form, with later additions. It is a single-storey building, with three wide bays and harled ashlar margins. There is a centrally positioned Doric columned portico, with a pediment and a recessed door with flanking windows. There is a late-19th century rectangular bay window to the left (West), with a later two-storey wing to rear (North) and to the East gable. There are deep eaves, four coped symmetrical ridge stacks and a shallow piended roof to the original house, and slate roofs elsewhere. There is a domestic icehouse within the garden, which is a basic stone built structure comprising of a single chamber with a barrel vaulted roof (icehouse recorded by W. A. Bartlam in 2007).
