Full Description
Depopulated settlement comprising the remains of longhouses and an enclosure. Eight unroofed buildings, two roofed buildings and three enclosures are shown on the OS 1st edition map. The remains, including 11 buildings, were recorded by Scotland's Rural Past in 2015. The buildings included a long steading comprising a byre/stables, barn with horse-powered threshing mill, and cart shed. A farmhouse is one and a half storey, or dressed granite, the upper parts of north and south gables timber clad. A kiln barn has a large kiln scarped into the bank on the west side. Part of a drystone wall to the southeast of the cottage was recorded during walkover survey by Highland Archaeology Services in May 2025 ahead of proposed woodland planting (NO39SW0087). It was tumbled in places with a central gate on the road side and horizontal capstones. The visit noted that the cottage and outbuildings were visible and still roofed, with other buildings evident to the north.
