Full Description

Graveyard and site of church. The old parish church of Glenmuick was described in Old Statistical Account as 'a very old house thatched with heather...dedicated to the Virgin Mary'. In 1798 it was burned down and never repaired. The Ordnance Survey Name Book adds that nothing of it remains except the burial ground, still in use. The parishes of Glenmuick, Tullich and Glengairn were joined about 1500, according to Scott, and belonged in 1633, according to Jervise, to the King's College, Aberdeen. A rectilinear mound in the centre of the graveyard is suggested as the most likely site of the church. Many later gravestones have been erected over this mound. The graveyard contains two First World War Commonwealth war graves, as well as a rare example of a wooden grave marker.
