Full Description

A walkover survey was carried out by CFA in 2013 along the route of a proposed new access road to the Ballater Water Treatment Works which crosses an area of recorded features (NO39NW0024). The survey along a 40 m corridor identified ten archaeological sites, focussed in the western half of the area, comprising a number of field banks, possible cairns (including clearance cairns), remains of enclosures, a platform and a structure which may be a hut circle. A watching brief was carried out by CFA in 2014 during topsoil stripping close to one of the recorded features, but it identified no further archaeological features.
