Full Description

Remains of a depopulated settlement situated at the eastern end of the Pass of Ballater, just above the floodplain of the River Dee. It comprises a hollow-way running northwest-southeast, the footings of a rectangular building, a corn-drying kiln and various inexplicable swellings, depressions and low walls. The stream flowing through the area has been canalised but no mill remains. There is no definite indication of a medieval village, the visible remains being similar to those of a depopulated homestead of the late 18th-early 19th Century type.
