Full Description

Remains of a longhouse, comprising a small rectangular enclosure attached to a sub-oval enclosure. The buildings are marked as sheepfolds on the OS map of 1867, although this may be a reusing of earlier structures. The remains of another longhouse with attached enclosures lies circa 144m to the southwest at NO 3098 8585. It is also depicted as dis-used on the OS map of 1867. These are part of a dispersed settlement which also includes NO38NW0006 recorded by field survey in 2010 (Scotland's Rural Past). The southernmost building (Building N) measures 11m by 2.6m internally, with an attached enclosure on the south side. Both are reduced to grass covered footings. To the northeast, two small buildings (L and M) occupy level platforms on a moderately steep slope, with large, conjoined enclosures (6 and 7) attached. The walls are much tumbled, and overgrown with heather. They were depicted as a sheepfold on the OS 1st edition map, but this was clearly a secondary use. Northeast of the enclosure (at NO3111486100) are the remains of a small hut (K) measuring 4.5m by 2m internally occupying a level platform, and with a possible entrance on the west side. A small yard extends west of the building.
