Remains of a small settlement recorded during archaeological survey carried out by GUARD in June 1999. The remains comprised a number of structures. (a) on a level grassy surface is a large oval platform measuring 22m by 13m, defined on the west by a curving revetment built of two courses of offset large boulders. At the northwest end a possible entrance is marked by a large boulder. Two perpendicular lengths of stone footings define what appears to be a structure at the south end, one of these crossing the platform east-west. (b) a circular scooped feature, 5m in diameter deeply hollowed in the centre, with some stone in the low bank surrounding it, and a possible entrance on the south. (c) an oval cairn of angular boulders measuring 3m by 1.5m, and standing 0.3m high. (d) a sub-rectangular platform, measuring 10m by 6m, defined by sloping drystone revetments of angular boulders on the north, west and south sides. The east side is defined by a vertical revetment, 0.45m high, with several courses evident. The entrance is on the southwest. (e) a sub-rectangular building measuring 8m by 4m, defined by heather covered banks, with an entrance at the west. It is terraced into the slope. (f) a sub-rectangular structure, surviving as heather covered stone footings, measuring 19m by 4m. It is divided into two by a cross wall, and has an entrance in the west. The southeast part is defined by lower, more amorphous banks and this may indicate an earlier phase of building. Heather may be obscuring other features. Walkover survey was carried out by GUARD Archaeology in 2021 ahead of proposed woodland creation (NO36SE0079). The structures were visible as a large oval platform with a curving revetment, a circular scooped feature with a low bank, and a small sub-rectangular structure. They were in relatively good condition though covered with bracken and moss.
