Full Description

Remains of a croft. Two buildings and an enclosure were recorded by Headland Archaeology during a survey of the Balnaboth Estate. The northern building measures 14m from northwest-southeast x 3m over 0.7m wide, ruinous stony walls standing up to 0.8m in height. There are two rooms, both with entrances in the north-east wall. A second , smaller structure lies to the south-east. Comprising a low platform, it measures 5m x 3m with a low turf-covered stony bank along the west side. An enclosure, lying to the north of the buildings, measures 8m x 9m over partly collapsed stone walls 0.8m wide and up to 1m high. The buildings are shown as disused, on the 1st edition OS map (1865), as is the enclosure, which is annotated 'Old Sheepfold'. None of these features appear on the 2nd edition map.
