Full Description

Remains of hut-circles recorded during a survey of Glen Clova by the RCAHMS. The hut at NO 35216 68486 (CLOVA99 242) is roughly circular, 7.7m in diameter, the walls reduced to a stony bank 1.2m thick and up to 0.2m high. The entrance is on the east where the wall has been built on a low platform. At NO3516868361 RCAHMS recorded two hut-circles and a building on the east flank of Cairn Leith. The northwestern hut circle is 7.7m in diameter, within a stony bank 1.6m thick and 0.3m high, with an entrance on the southeast. The second hut circle, 20m to the southeast, is 7.5m in diameter within a stony bank 1.5m thick and 0.2m, and also has an entrance on the southeast. A further 25m to the southeast is the remains of a building, subrectangular in plan with rounded corners, measuring 7.3m by 2.6m internally, the walls reduced to stony banks 0.3m high. It has an entrance on the east-northeast side, and to one side is a possible midden heap. The site was visited in March 2017 by Alder Archaeology as part of a walkover survey in advance of a proposed hydro-electric scheme (NO36NW0082).
