Full Description

Remains of three large adjoining hut-circles, recorded by A M Dick in 2000. They lie on the top of a small rise. They are surrounded with low clearance cairns, some very subdued. There are also the remains of a farmstead lying just opposite The Drums, with longhouses and saw-pit. Areas of subdued rig lie to the east. There are also other structures to the east and south scattered over the area. Prehistoric pottery was discovered in an area disturbed by animals adjacent to one of the roundhouses by Dick in 2000. The pottery included two rim sherds, one of which was tentatively dated to the Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age with a broad flat rim and the other has an upright, slightly pointed rim with an internal bevel. RCAHMS field visit 1999 recorded a sheepfold, (NO 36055 69219) clearance cairn, area of rig and furrow and bank on a terrace in improved pasture about 150m north-northeast of The Drums.
