Remains of a township and a building.

Remains of a township and a building. Recorded by the RCAHMS during field survey. This township, in unimproved pasture, comprises at least eight buildings, five smaller huts, a corn-drying kiln and at least twelve small enclosures. The buildings and most of the enclosures area closely grouped at the west edge of the township. The buildings range from 7.9m to 18.4m in length by between 2.2m and 3.4m in breadth within rubble walls. The largest has three compartments and stands at right angles to another building with opposed entrances (possibly a threshing barn). these buildings with their attached enclosures or yards appear to form a discrete farmstead and are the only structures shown on the OS 1st edition map when they were roofed and named Little Eggie. The corn-drying kiln, set into an east-facing slope west of the main cluster of buildings, is subrectangular in plan, measuring 5m by 3.5m with a bowl 1.9m in diameter and stone-lined flue opening to the east. The remaining small buildings or huts and small enclosures, are disposed across the ground to the west and south. An unroofed building is also shown on the OS 1st edition map at NO 35746980.
