Full Description

Memorial paving stone placed in the close by Kirriemuir Community Council in 2006 commemorating three Victoria Cross recipients: Captain Charles Lyell, Corporal Richard Burton and Private Charles Melvin. Private Melvin received the VC for his actions in World War I in 1917 as a member of the 2nd Battalion Black Watch. Corporal Burton (1st Battalion, Duke of Wellington's (West Riding) Regiment) was awarded the VC for actions during World War II on 8 October 1944 in Italy. Captain Lyell (1st Battalion Scots Guards) was awarded the VC posthumously for actions in April 1943 in Tunisia. .
