Full Description

Castle, still in use. It was built for John Wishart of Logie in circa 1540, and has been extended and remodelled in the late 17th century, the south wing was remodelled in 1722 and the back courtyard added in circa 1830. It is shown on the 1st and 2nd edition OS maps as an oblong building with an internal court, a greenhouse on the south-east end and a the rear courtyard to the north-west. It is a three-storey and attic harled laird's house with a vaulted basement and projecting turnpike. There is a dormer pediment dated 1688 built into the courtyard wall, and a lintel dated 1691. There is a circular stair-tower projecting at the north-east angle, now truncated and finishing with a flat oversailing roof. There are stables to the north (NO 3923 5213), a large walled garden with greenhouse also to the north (NO 3926 5229) and a mausoleum (NO35SE0112).

Period Notes
Originates from circa 1540, but extended and remodelled in the late-17th century, remodelling in 1722 and the courtyard added in circa 1830. It was listed on 11/06/1971.
