Full Description

Seven clearance cairns recorded by CFA field survey in 2007 ahead of proposed wind farm. The cairns were also recorded during field survey carried out by Clyde Archaeology in October 2023 ahead of proposed woodland creation (NO35NW0102). They are spread in a line on the southeast and southwest flank of Mile Hill. Generally constructed of clearly visible cobbles and large boulders. The easternmost cairn measures 7 m by 5 m and up to 0.5 m high, but he others, particularly those much further upslope to the west are smaller. There is a linear pile circa 15 m long that appears to be located at the eastern end of a possible track. The cairns appear relatively modern, and there is no obvious evidence of cultivation remains or drainage in their vicinity.
