Full Description

Remains of a field bank recorded during walkover survey by CFA in 2007 ahead of a proposed wind farm. The field boundary is depicted on the OS 1st edition map. It was also recorded during field survey carried out by Clyde Archaeology in October 2023 ahead of proposed woodland creation (NO35NW0102, although in large part outwith the scheme boundary). It comprises a substantial bank and ditch running around the lower slopes of the north and northeast sides of Mill Hill. THe bank is up to 3 m wide and 0.75 m high, the ditch up to 0.5 m deep. The western end of the ditch appears to have been used for modern drainage, and areas to the east appear to have an internal and external ditch. It corresponds to the edge of the woodland as shown on the OS 1st edition map and likely represents a formal boundary to the woodland.
