Full Description

Remains of three clearance cairns recorded during walkover survey by CFA in 2007 ahead of a proposed wind farm. Given their association with linear field boundaries associated with the 19th century improved field system they are thought to be of similar date. Field survey carried out by Clyde Archaeology in October 2023 ahead of proposed woodland creation (NO35NW0102) recorded on cairn, at NO3072757975 (probably the eastern one recorded in 2007). stands on the northern side of the bank that formerly defined the edge of the woodland as shown on the OS 1st edition map. It measures circa 5 m by 3 m, with some stone visible through the turf, likely dumped from clearance of fields to the south.
