Full Description

Former manse (Church of Scotland), dated 1792, probably replacing an earlier one. Plain two-storey manse, with a harled exterior, an inset stone 'M.J.B. 1792' and a slated roof. The south elevation ground floor windows have been enlarged and dormers added. Constructed of random sandstone with lime harling. There appear to have been several phases of alterations. Prior to 1860 a single storey extension was added to the north. A major extension indicated on plans of 1861 appear not to have been carried out, nor were more modest alterations shown on plans of 1862 and 1863, although some alterations were made at that time including the addition of dormer windows to the attic rooms and changes to outbuildings. Significant changes were made in the 1920s including changes to ground floor front windows, replacement of the stone spiral stairs with timber ones partly in a new bay extension on the north front, and incorporation of the coal store into the dairy as a wash house with chimney added. A long rectangular-plan single-storey steading is adjacent to the southwest of the manse, built of rubble stone with sandstone quoins. Only the north end of an original range of buildings now stand and these have been subject to a number of changes over time. . The present manse probably replaced an earlier one.
