Full Description

Remains of six clearance cairns recorded by CFA walkover survey in 2007 ahead of a proposed windfarm. Denuded remains of three clearance cairns and a linear spread of boulders, were recorded on the east side of the burn during a walkover survey carried out by MAS in 2010 in advance of a proposed windfarm. A total of 12 cairns were recorded on the eastern slopes of Saddle Hill during field survey carried out by Clyde Archaeology in October 2023 ahead of proposed woodland creation (NO35NW0102). They were mostly dispersed apart from a group of three on the northern side. One measure up to 11 m but most were smaller, and up to 0.75 m high. They all tended to comprise clearly visible cobbles and boulders, some very large and which were likely moved by machine. It is not clear whether the modern stone dumping overlies earlier cairns, or whether they are all relatively recent in date.
