Full Description
Site of Balruddery House and gardens, depicted on OS 1st and 2nd edition maps, and coach house and stables still in use, with surrounding designed landscape. The house was designed by David Neave and built circa 1820. The OS 1st edition map shows a rectangular plan house with projecting north porch. To the north is a rectangular steading (NO33SW0015), the east stables (NO33SW0016) and a gasometer. The house was extended circa 1880 including the addition of a conservatory, and at this time the west coach house was also added. The 2nd edition OS map also shows a small building to the north, formal garden to the south of the house, and fountain to the northwest, with a walled garden with glasshouses further west. The house was rebuilt in 1889 following a fire. A studio and curling club house were built in 1901. The house was demolished 1960-65. The coach house and stables are listed and have been converted to dwellings. An icehouse to the West is presumably associated (NO33SW0113).
