Full Description

Former threshing mill, probably dating to the mid 19th century and built within the Auchtavan township (NO29NW0015). It is a two-bay, rectangular-plan threshing mill and granary with an uncovered horse walk, and is constructed from large blocks of pink and grey squared granite with small pieces of snecking almost as cherry caulking in places and corrugated-iron roofing with ashlar skews and shaped skewputts. The east entrance elevation has a paired, timber-lintelled, square-headed cart-arch entrance in the bay to the south giving way to small, square opening at the south and a granary/hayloft door breaking the eaves at the north. The bay to the north has a centre door flanked by arrowslit openings. The west elevation has a raised area for the horse walk at the north with a doorway at the centre flanked by arrowslits, that to the south above a large stone slab blocking shaft opening for millwheel gearing. The bay to the south has two small square openings close to the eaves over steeply falling ground. The gable end elevations are blank. The arrowslit opening to the west elevation is over a small square opening off-set to right, this is almost at the interior floor level and incorporates parts of a bearing pillow block for wheel gearing. A low wall to the approximate centre forms the north edge of the hayloft floor.
