Full Description

Remains of a farmstead comprising three buildings, one of which still stands to wallhead height. It is depicted on the 1st edition OS map as two single buildings almost forming an L-shape on the south-west side, and another building with an attached irregular-shaped enclosure to the northeast. A second wall runs westwards from the larger building and then turns 90 degrees down towards the stream. By the 2nd edition OS map the most southerly building had become disused and the southern end of the adjacent building was also disused. It is unclear if the most northerly building attached to the enclosure is still upstanding or no longer extant. CFA field survey in 2012 in connection with proposed windfarm access recorded the remains of two buildings forming an L-plan, a fragment of stone and turf wall to the west and remains of a building and enclosure to the northeast. The best-preserved building measures 20 m by 6 m, and is of three compartments, with the remains of a fireplace in the northern gable which stands to 1.9 m in height with an entrance on the east side. A second building to the south measures 12 m by 6 m with an entrance on the north. To the northeast of these buildings are the remains of a stone walled enclosure, with poorly preserved remains of the southern end of a small building at its north east corner, the walls standing only to a maximum of 0.2 m.
