Full Description
Cairns, possible hut circle, longhouses and enclosures. In an area of birch and Scots pine there is the remains of a possible hut circle at NO2885 9595. Its diameter is circa 10m with wall spread to 2m. It sits on a slight platform and has an entrance on the south. Two pine trees are growing on the western side. To the east and south-east of the hut are at least four low cairns 40-50cm high, circa 5-6m in diameter, one of which may be a kerb cairn, all partly grass-covered. One has a large boulder sitting in the middle of a slight depression in the centre of the cairn. Towards the west and south of the hut are the remains of a depopulated settlement with at least seven houses with attached enclosures scattered across the area. Most have trees growing within them. Running diagonally across the slope in a northwest-southeast direction is an old grass-covered road or track part bordered by a very low wall. Several mature Scots pine are growing on the road. At circa NO 28889603 are the remains of another longhouse which is cut by a very denuded low wall and a later fence.
