Full Description
Remains of a depopulated settlement. The remains of a small township comprising at least five longhouses with stone footings surviving up to 0.5m in height. Houses vary in dimensions, some are divided into byre and living areas. There is one house, of wider proportions, by the present field boundary, almost L-shape in plan. Running out beneath the garden wall of the present farmhouse is a low bank of an earlier phase. Two enclosures are associated with the settlement and there are depleted field dykes to the north. To the east of the present farm track is an enclosure and the footings of three small rectangular houses. The remains of two further buildings and two possible structures were observed in 2006 after cattle had been fed on the site. A photographic survey of the extant steading was carried out in 2006 prior to proposed conversion.
