Full Description

Viaduct, spanning the Divie valley at Glenervie. Built in 1831-63 by chief engineer Joseph Mitchell for Inverness and Perth Junction Railway. The foundation stone of the viaduct was laid by Lady Elma Bruce on 20/10/1861. Built for the Grantown/Forres line of the Highland Railway. There are seven 13.71 m wide segmental arches on tall piers and rock faced courses. Central dressed parapets with mirrored plaques facing the railway track are in the centre, and turrets with dummy arrow slits at the ends. The end piers are crenelated. Total cost £10,231 to erect. Each arch is 45 feet high, 106 feet above the river bed. The overall length is 477 feet. The viaduct is now disused.

Period Notes
Built in 1861-63. Foundation stone laid on 20/10/1861 by Lady Elma Bruce. Designated on 26/01/1971.
