Full Description

Remains of eight shieling huts recorded by the RCAHMS during field survey in 2004. They range between 4.2m and 7.3m in length and 1.7m to 2.8m in breadth within walls reduced to grass-grown stony banks. Three overlie earlier huts. Not depicted on the 1st or 2nd edition OS maps, nor on the current edition (2006). Also recorded during walkover survey in 2021 ahead of proposed woodland creation (NO37SW0150). This also noted a large irregular quarry at NO 29788 74977, measuring circa 16m by 17m, and another possible quarry at NO2974575017, both probably associated with the modern road.
