Full Description

Remains of hut circles and a field system. Hut A has an entrance in the southeast and a lynchet joins the north arc of the hut. There is a cultivation plot to northeast of Hut A. Hut B has hollowed centre 4 m by 2 m. The field system is marked by stone clearance heaps, lynchets and field walls and comprises three plots, 15 m by 7 m, 40 m by 16 m, 50 m by 17 m. A plantation covers the field system to the west. Visited by RCAHMS on 19 June 1991 when two of the hut circles were preserved in a narrow strip between dense afforestation. That to the northeast at NJ 0462 4637 measures 14.7 m from east to west by 13.2 m transversely within a heather-covered stony bank spread to 2.6 m and 0.5 m in height and is terraced into the slope. The entrance is to the east and an arc of bank runs from the hut-circle bank to the northwest truncated by the forestry fence. The hut-circle to the southwest, NJ 0459 4635 measures 16 m in diameter within a heather-covered bank spread to 2.5 m in breadth and 0.5 m in height. The entrance is to the east and the interior is slightly terraced. The west side has been disturbed by the forestry fence. In the strip of unplanted ground running up from the track to the huts there is a scatter of small cairns measuring up to 6 m in diameter and 0.4 m in height. Several fragments of field banks are interspersed among the cairns. Desk based assessments and walkover surveys were carried out 2011-12, in connection with proposed windfarm access. A number of clearance cairns were recorded in the survey area, and one possible hut circle, as well as a length of turf and rubble dyke (NJ 04858 46089 - NJ 04797 45945) and circular platform (NJ04NW0104).
