Full Description

Remains of a five shielings recorded during walkover survey carried out by AOC Archaeology in May 2019 ahead of a proposed woodland creation scheme (NO26SE0017). Comprising grass and moss covered banks, all very degraded. Structure a is a circular bank up to 0.7m high with an internal hollow 2.7m across. Structure b is a double cell structure, the cells measuring 2m and 2.5m internally with banks spread up to 1m wide and 0.7m high. Structure c is a multi-celled structure measuring 1.5m by 2m internally, its banks spread up to 2m and standing 0.2m high. Structure d is also multi-cell, built on a raised mound by the stream with possible pens attached to the exterior. It measured 2m internally. Structure e comprised two cells each 2m in diameter with low turf banks and occasional stone spread up to 1.2m and standing 0.4m high.
