Full Description
Remains of a group of shielings recorded during walkover survey carried out by AOC Archaeology in May 2019 ahead of a proposed woodland creation scheme (NO26SE0017). They comprise grass and heather covered turf built structures, varying in size: a:- 5m by 2m internally, b:- 2m square internally, c:- 2m by 1.5m internally, d:- 2m by 2.5m internally. Structure c differs in also having a stone upper structure which may represent a second phase of use. Remains of rig and furrow were recorded nearby. One building is shown as ruinous on the OS 1st and 2nd edition maps.
