Full Description
Remains of a hut-circle recorded during the course of a pre-afforestation survey by AOC (Scotland) Ltd in 1994 at NO25NW0042. It is a small, sub-circular structure, measuring 4.5m from northeast-southwest by 3.5m transversely within a turf-clad bank 3.5m wide and 0.2m high. The banks are slightly thickened or extended on the downslope side where there may originally have been an entrance. Walkover survey in 2022 by Mott Macdonald ahead of forestry works recorded the remains of a hut circled within a clearing a little to the north of the location noted in 1994. It survives as a scooped depression with a very low outer bank. However the features identified do not equate fully with those recorded in 1994. The late survey recorded a curvilinear bank circa 1.5m wide and 0.2m high which would have given an external diameter of 29m with a platform or bowl area circa 6-7m wide un the interior.
