Full Description

Remains of a group of seven low cairns. They were recorded on the east side of Broom Hill during the course of a pre-afforestation survey by AOC (Scotland) Ltd in 1994. Walkover survey in 2022 by Mott Macdonald ahead of forestry operations identified only one cairn (MM09) and a second possible, heavily overgrown, cairn (MM10), both within an unplanted area. MM09 measures circa 2m in diameter and is circa 0.75m high. MM10 comprises a clearly defined raised area, grass and moss grown, circa 2.5m in diameter and circa 0.5m high. They appear to have resulted from small scale field clearance. It is assumed that the cairns were destroyed by the earlier planting.
