Full Description

Remains of field boundary dykes recorded during walkover survey by Alder Archaeology in May 2023 ahead of proposed woodland creation (NO25NE0092). They measure up to circa 1 m in height, and are depicted on historic OS maps. Clearance cairns were also recorded alongside some stretches. At NO2772157883 - NO2773157902 is a long, spread out clearance cairn, 31 m by 3.4 m, parallel to the dyke. Between NO2811658050 and NO2810258088 an irregular, long clearance cairn measures up to 2 m wide and 54 m long. Two small culverts were recorded at NO2782857823 and NO2790157833,crossing the drainage ditch immediately to the north of the dyke east of Middle Coull farmstead.
